Say hello to Vitamin D!

Letting the sun shine through your windows can help heat up a room during the day. Keeping curtains or drapes open during the sunny days and closing them when it starts to get dark will help you save some money. Closed curtains and drapes during the night prevents any drafts and slow heat loss through the glass.

Rugs are your best friend

Having hard floors are more susceptible of getting chilly, especially if they aren’t heated. A few rugs can be a decorative way of warming up a room. Adding rugs and rug pads for even more warmth to your list wouldn’t be a bad idea!

Proper insulation

One inexpensive way to reduce electric bills is making sure your home has good insulation. Having insulation in an attic is a great way to block off those unwanted drafts. Other places to check for proper insulation is walls, electrical outlets, and anywhere utilities enter your home. Did we mention YBC offers installation services for batt rolls and blown-in insulation?

Air vents like to breathe, too

For more efficient heating in your home, make sure all vents aren’t covered or blocked off by furniture or any other objects. Blocked vents result in furnaces working even harder, and can create cracks or leaks if too much air pressure is going on in your ductwork. Clear your vents for better heat flow throughout your home.

Goodbye drafts

Are you ready to part with those drafts from your windows and doors? Prevent heat from seeping out windows and doors by sealing them off. You can install weather strips, or a silicone sealant that is right for you.

Cut the cords (not literally)

Appliances and electronics can be culprits of a higher energy bill, even when they’re not being used. Devices that operate with a remote control are always on “standby mode”, which are the main energy items. Unplugging these kind of devices while they’re not in use will lessen the energy intake.

Did someone say LED?

We hate to break it to you, but incandescent or CFL light bulbs are not the way to go when it comes to saving electricity. LED light bulbs use up to 75% less energy and last 25x longer than other light bulbs. You’re welcome.

We hope these tips have been beneficial towards you, as there are many other simple ways to bring that electricity bill down. Now you know how to take preventive steps against a higher electricity bill!
